Geography
INTENT
Children will leave Croft as geographers. They will be able to name the countries and capital cities of the UK along with the world’s continents, oceans and seas. They will know many countries around the world, their capital cities and be able to place and name the counties in the UK. The children will have a strong knowledge of place and location.
They will be able to use maps, atlases and globes with confidence and be able to use grid references and keys. They will also have a rich knowledge of both human and physical geography. They will know which each one specifically refers to but they will also know that in today’s world, they are interdependent and that both aspects change over time.
By the time children leave Croft they will think like geographers. They will have a bank of geographical knowledge and be able to communicate geographical information in a variety of ways. As the children move on from our school they will leave with a knowledge and understanding of their role in human geography. They will know the impact and consequences of all processes, both natural and manmade.
